     INFORMATION FOR CIU

STUNT TEAMS 2020

I am Vickie Elliott, owner of CIU and former head cheer Tahlequah High School for 28 years.  I also started the first every STUNT team in Oklahoma at THS 9 years ago and I am super excited to start our second season of youth STUNT at CIU!!  The first season was a blast and our 3-4 Grade STUNT Stars went undefeated!!  I am so excited that USA Cheer is bringing this sport to elementary and middle school athletes across the nation!  I know that teaching athletes using the very basic stunt drills and safety guidelines, regardless of age or current abilities, is the BEST way to begin a cheer or stunt program to prevent injuries and to progress safely.  Our first few practices will be what I call, readiness practices.  Once I know that the athlete knows how to and can perform the drills properly, then we will begin to work on the actual stunts and pyramids using the STUNT videos, 8-count sheets and music.  The assistant coaches working with the teams have also participated in the sport of STUNT at the high school level.

What is STUNT?

STUNT, the fastest growing female sport in the country, removes the crowd-leading element and focuses on the technical and athletic components of cheer, including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps and tumbling. These elements are put together in short routines that both teams must perform head-to-head on the floor at the same time. The team that executes the skills best (least amount of errors) wins the round and the point,  and has the opportunity to determine which of routine level will be called next. With four quarters of play – partner stunts, pyramids & tosses, jumps & tumbling, and team routine – STUNT is an exciting sport to play, coach and watch.

Each Quarter consists of four rounds, competing with 4 of the 6 routines learned, 1pt awarded to the team that performs that routine with the least number of mistakes for a total of 4 pts given per quarter. 3pts are given for the winner in the 4th quarter.

First Quarter— Stunts

Second Quarter—Pyramids and Basket Tosses

Third Quarter---Jumps and Tumbling

Fourth Quarter—Mini routines comprised of all three types of routines.

Each team can decide which athletes do which routines, not everyone will do all of them but everyone will do at least one in each section.  Not all athletes will learn all the routines, this will be determined during practice.  TUMBLING IS NOT REQUIRED by everyone!

All routines are learned from the STUNT videos and 8 count sheets provided by USA CHEER.  Each athlete will have access to these to help learn/practice their part outside of practice.  These CANNOT BE SHARED with other people outside of the team.

Technique, basic skills, and progression readiness will dictate how many routines we can learn.  Our minimum goal is for 3-4 graders to learn 2 of the 6 for each quarter and 5-8 graders to learn 4 of the 6 routines for each quarter.
